Workspace uses industry standard Microsoft technology to support both the server and client.
The basic architecture of any Workspace installation has three server components:
- Corporate Database and Central index: Microsoft SQL Server.
- Document Store: Microsoft Windows Server. (Documents are not held within SQL Server).
- Web/ Application Server: Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) which supports the Workspace web application.
The requirement for three server components does not necessarily imply that you will require three physical servers. More often than not two or more of the components will be supported by the same physical server. This is particularly the case for systems with 50 or fewer users. We will discuss in detail your specific network and server architecture as part of our presales service.
Server Requirements:
- The Workspace Corporate Database requires Microsoft SQL Server. Supported versions are Microsoft SQL Server 2005, 2008 and 2008 R2. We will advise as to the appropriate edition as part of our presales service.
- The Workspace Document Store and any Cache Servers require Windows Server 2003 or above and currently Windows Server 2008 R2 is recommended.
- The Workspace Web or Application Server requires Windows 2003 or above and currently Windows Server 2008 R2 is recommended.
Client PC Requirements:
- Workspace requires Internet Explorer 7,8 or 9
- Windows XP, Vista and 7 are supported and hardware should meet Microsoft's recommended (not minimum) specification.
Development Environment:
- Supported development environments include ASP.NET and ASP (ASP Classic).
- Visual Studio 2005 and above.
